- Questioning techniques. The inexperienced interviewer who can overcome any embarrassment at questioning and probing, and learn to do it with empathy and understanding, will be able to judge a candidate’s ability to do the job in question.
- Listening techniques. Effective listening is an essential part of interviewing. A good listener encourages and facilitates communication.
- Writing a job description, job specification and person profile. The documents that describe the job, how it is done and the ideal person for that job forms the basis for the process of planning the interview.
- Interview preparation. “To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail” applies to the interview process.
- Interview structure. Delegates will go through the structure of an interview and learn at what point to terminate or proceed.
- Legislation. The Race Relations Act, the Sex Discrimination Act and the Disability Discrimination Act.
- Interview practice. Like any skill, interviewing needs practice and during the two days there is plenty of opportunity for this.
